Target CGPA Calculator
Determine the average SGPA required in your upcoming semesters to hit your graduation CGPA goal or campus placement cut-off.
How the Required SGPA Is Calculated
To reach a specific graduation CGPA, your remaining semesters must mathematically compensate for your completed terms. The calculator determines the average grade point average required across all remaining credits.
1. Equal-Semester Formula
Applied when every semester in your degree program carries the exact same number of credits:
Where T is target CGPA, C_current is current CGPA, N_total is total degree semesters, N_done is completed terms, and N_remaining is upcoming terms.
2. Credit-Weighted Formula
Applied when terms carry differing credit hours (e.g., project, elective, or internship terms):
Where ΣC_total is total degree credits, ΣC_done is credits completed, and ΣC_remaining is total credits across remaining terms.
Worked Numerical Example
Suppose an undergraduate student in an 8-semester degree has completed 5 semesters with a current CGPA of 7.40 and aims for a final graduation CGPA of 8.00. There are 3 semesters remaining.
Required average SGPA = 27.00 ÷ 3 = 9.00 across Semesters 6, 7, and 8. Because 9.00 is within the 10.00 scale ceiling, this goal is mathematically achievable with consistent high-distinction performance.
Feasibility Thresholds & Academic States
Understanding the mathematical constraints of cumulative grade point systems helps avoid unrealistic targets.
Required SGPA ≤ 10.00
The target grade point average is mathematically within reach through consistent performance in your remaining semesters.
Required SGPA > 10.00
Even with perfect 10.00 grade points in every remaining course, the target cannot be reached. Review the Maximum Achievable CGPA instead.
Required SGPA ≤ Passing
Your current cumulative performance already guarantees this threshold, provided you clear passing grades without academic backlogs.
